Mini Reviews #1

Hi lovelies! Sorry for the recent lack of posts, life has been crazy ever since I started back at university I thought I'd give you my thoughts on a few of my most recent reads. I'm hoping to made this a series, so let me know what you think!

27883214Remember, it’s only a game…

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…beware of getting swept too far away.

Thank you to St Martins Press for this gorgeous book. With magical writing, whimsical world-building and wonderful characters, I loved this one so much. I'm so imprrssessed with Stephanie Garber's fabulous debut, and I can't wait to read the next in the series.

17234658Cloud Atlas meets Orphan Black in this epic dimension-bending trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray about a girl who must chase her father's killer through multiple dimensions.

Marguerite Caine's physicist parents are known for their groundbreaking achievements. Their most astonishing invention, called the Firebird, allows u
sers to jump into multiple universes—and promises to revolutionize science forever. But then Marguerite's father is murdered, and the killer—her parent's handsome, enigmatic assistant Paul— escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite refuses to let the man who destroyed her family go free. So she races after Paul through different universes, always leaping into another version of herself. But she also meets alternate versions of the people she knows—including Paul, whose life entangles with hers in increasingly familiar ways. Before long she begins to question Paul's guilt—as well as her own heart. And soon she discovers the truth behind her father's death is far more sinister than she expected.

A Thousand Pieces of You explores an amazingly intricate multi-universe where fate is unavoidable, the truth elusive, and love the greatest mystery of all.

Thanks to Harper360 for this gorgeous trilogy. Wow, these covers are just incredible, some of the best in YA. This was a really fun (if a little young) trilogy, albiet with a predicatable love triangle. I had a great time reading this one, although it did seem a little cookie-cutter dystopian.

18692431 My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Thank you Penguin for this one. Another gorgeous cover! And a beautiful story within. I really enjoyed this one, although perhaps not living up to the hype I expected, since this is so many people's favourite book. But still, I would definately recommend this one.

Have you guys read any of these? If so, what did you think? I'd love to hear some different opinions!
Love,

  1. I loved Caraval, I loved how everything was described so well you could almost be there. It also feels like I book that would be very good to re-read.

I liked Everything Everything, but I thought the plot was a little convenient or unrealistic in some places.

Haven't read A Thousand Pieces of You, but it's on my list.
