2018 was an amazing reading year for me! In addition to more than doubling the number of books I read last year, I read some new favourites, was sent some wonderful new releases by publishers, went to BEA and most of all, even met a few book blogging friends!
Let's look back on the books I read this year!
P.S. Many of these graphics are from the wonderful Year In Review Feature on Goodreads, so thank you goodreads for making my job easier for me! I also included the book I'm currently reading in the stats, since it will be finished by midnight tonight (I hope!).
(Not including rereads, and I included Enchantee because I am adoring it so far, even though I won't finish it until tonight.)
- In fantasy books this year, I adored Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series and Robin Lafever's His Fair Assasin series.
- In contempary I loved The Astonishing Colour of After, American Panda, Flight Season and Exit Persued by a Bear.
- Interestingly, all but 2 authors are new to me authors!
- 20 Rereads vs 100 New Reads
- New Reads were 26 Debuts vs 74 Returning Authors
- Read more diversely! In 2019, I want the majority of books I am reading to feature a marginalised character.
- Read 150 books. In order to do this I will need to read around 12-13 books per month. This will be a serious challenge for me with all I will have going on at university, but I think I can do it!
- Get on top of my ARCs and review copies. By the end of 2019 I want to have no backlist ARCs left to review. I currently have about 65 so this will mean every 1-2 books I will be reading one of these backlist titles.
Love,
I don't blame you, I always include the book I'm reading for the end of the year. Stay positive and always assume you'll finish it by midnight (I didn't but hope springs eternal). I'm seeing a few covers of books I've enjoyed in your list for 2018 and a few I really should have read but didn't get to.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can manage to reach your goals for 2019. I'm also trying to get on top of ARCs and review copies this year. I figure if I speed through them I can start requesting some more again.
Happy New Year!
Haha it didn't happen.... but I'm hoping that by the end of today I will be finished it ;D
DeleteThank you so many for your lovely comment, Becky!
Glad 2018 was such an awesome reading year! Hope this year is also. Love the collage of books BTW! All your favorites are books that I've seen good things about. I do want to read more LaFevers as I read grave Mercy and loved it but for whatever reason I haven't read the others yet.
ReplyDeleteThank you Greg! Yes yes yes you must continue the His Fair Assassin trilogy, it just gets better and better :)
DeleteHappy New year!
City of Brass was fantastic. I cannot wait for the second novel. Hope 2019 is just as good to you in terms of books!
ReplyDeleteYes! I adored City of Brass! I was lucky enough to get my hands on an early ARC of Kingdom of Copper and I'm so excited to read it. Will let you know what I think x
DeleteWow this is awesome! Congratulations on such a great year in reading. I borrowed The Astonishing Color of After from the library recently and I'm looking forward to reading it. I've heard so many positive things about it. I hope you had a wonderful new year's day!

The Astonishing Colour of After is so wonderful, but heartwrenching. Make sure you get tissues! :)
Deletei HAVEN'T READ he Astonishing Colour of After, but it's at the top of my TBR - so happy you liked it. Hope you have a wonderful bookish 2019.
ReplyDeleteI hope you love it when you read it, Sue!
DeleteWow you've had such a fantastic reading year, that's amazing! I'm so happy to see the astonishing color and this mortal coil in your favorites, I loved these books SO much :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have an incredible reading year! :D
You too Marie! Also yesssss, TACOA and TMC are so wonderful :)
DeleteDid you absolutely love BEA?! I went in 2011 and 2012 and had a BLAST! I loved meeting fellow bloggers and talking with them in person. We would hang out in the city after BEA, and those are some of my most memorable memories.
ReplyDeleteThe Kiss Quotient was one of my favorite reads in 2018, and I'm currently in the middle of A Very Large Expanse of Sea. Grave Mercy is the only one of your favorites that I've read, but most of the others are on my list! Good luck with your 2019 goals! (Also, if you haven't read Royally Screwed by Emma Chase, I highly recommend it!) <3

I forgot to follow you the other day (we just moved across the state, so my brain malfunctions), but I remedied that today! New follower via Bloglovin'! I'm happy we met through my giveaway! :)
DeleteThe fact that you read over 100 books last year is blowing my mind! Makes it seem like my pile is SOOOOO tiny hahaha. I see so many of the books you listed are books that I've read or on my list! I can't wait to read your reviews and thoughts about them as the year goes on. I wish you the best 2019 Megan :)

I love all the images you have in this post! I want to go and do a stats post for my last year, but will have to see if I can fit it in later this month. As for getting all my backlist ARCs read? I have bookshelves full of them from past trips to BEA and then last year's ALA. But I am going to work on what I can. :-) Good luck on your goals, and thanks for visiting my challenge post earlier!
ReplyDeleteYou had a great reading year. I love the Robin LaFever books. I still need to read the third book in the series. Good luck catching up with your past due arcs. Have a great 2019!
ReplyDeleteWow, you really did have a great reading year. I actually haven't read any of your favorites yet but every single of them is on my TBR so sounds like I have some excellent reads coming up. I hope your 2019 reading year is even more successful!
ReplyDeleteWow, looks like you had an amazing reading year! I really want to read Robin LaFevers this year! Good luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I want to finish the Wayward Children series that are out. I also want to get on top of my past ARCs. I am trying to listen to those I can get the audios for to help with it.
ReplyDeleteDoubling your reading amount for 2018, that is great! It looks like you read some awesome books too. :D
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all your goals!
I love the his fait assassins series, I'm so excited for the new one! I really need to read american panda!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad 2018 was a good reading year for you! I definitely want to read more diverse books, though I tend to do fairly well with LGBT+ books - that's still only one aspect of diversity.

I really want to try the Wayward Children series, I've only read her (Mira Grant) Newsflesh series.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you read City of Brass, I adored that book and Kingdom of Copper was amazing!
I have a goal to read all my backlist ARCs too!! I mean...maybe I won't get there 😂but I want to try! I feel too guilty about them all haha. And ooh congrats on reading so many and I hope you hit the 150 goal this year *cheers for you* I also LOVED The Astonishing Colour of After...such an incredible and heartmoving book.
ReplyDeleteThe fair assassins series has been on my tbr list for years and I've still not managed to read them. Hopefully I can get to them this year. Good luck with your goals. :D

What a magnificent year in books it's been Megan! I can see so many of my favourites on your list as well. One thing I also struggled with was review copies and still have around 20 or so from 2018 that I'm currently making my way through before starting on the stack of 2019 releases I've already been sent. I'm hoping to get on top of them throughout January and get down to single digits. Here's to an incredible year of fabulous books! ♡
ReplyDeleteWow, you read so many books! Consider me impressed. I really need to catch up on the Throne of Glass series. I haven't read Tower of Dawn yet because I don't love Chaol, but everyone says the book is great anyway. Hopefully I'll get around to it this year. And City of Brass sounds so good! Happy 2019!
ReplyDeleteBEA and 119 books! Megan you ROCK! I see many books I loved too (Grave Mercy) and on my TBR (The Astonishing Colour of After and turtles all the way Down, WHICH WILL BE A MOVIE YEAHHH!)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had an amazing reading year!! Wishing you good luck with your 2019 reading goals!
